Today I started building Fibich.
The idea is simple, but it has been sitting in my head for a while: a native macOS music player for people who still care about their own music files.
Most music apps today are built around streaming, subscriptions, recommendations, and remote catalogs. They do not fully serve listeners with collected local libraries, lossless albums, unusual formats, archived releases, live recordings, or carefully arranged folders.
Fibich started from that place.
I want Fibich to become a focused hi-fi audio player for Mac, one that can handle local music libraries, support a wide range of audio formats, keep playlists durable, show readable metadata, and feel like a proper native macOS app.
Right now, the project consists of a codebase, an app shell, and the first library and playback components. The direction already matters. Fibich needs to respect how people store and listen to music.
Playback is only one part of the job.
A serious local music player needs to understand folders, tracks, albums, artists, metadata, file formats, and playlists that should still be there tomorrow. It needs to work well with macOS, not against it. It should feel comfortable next to Finder, media keys, system playback controls, and the habits Mac users already have.
It also needs to care about the less glamorous parts of music collections. Tags are not always clean. Files move. Albums may come with artwork, CUE sheets, or inconsistent metadata. Some collections are small and tidy; others are large, old, and full of strange little details. A good player should not fall apart the moment a library becomes real.
That is the long-term ambition for Fibich: wide format support, durable playlists, library organization, metadata tools, and macOS playback integration in one native player.
I do not expect all of that to appear at once. I will document what changes, which problems appear, what becomes easier, and what still needs work as I build a reliable player for local hi-fi collections.
Today is mostly the starting line.
Fibich now exists. The goal is clear: build a Mac music player centered on the library you own.
